A Genetic/Traditional Surrogate is a surrogate mother who also donated her egg and thus has a biological link to the child she is carrying for the future parents. This is where the surrogate is inseminated (usually artificially) with the intended father’s sperm.
A Gestational Surrogate, which is the most common, is a surrogate who is not genetically connected to the child she is carrying for the intended parents. The eggs are harvested from the intended mother or an egg donor, are fertilized with the prospective father’s sperm or sperm donor, and then transferred to the surrogate’s uterus. Extraordinary Conceptions only works with gestational surrogates.
