First time surrogate: A personal story
While surrogacy is the “golden thread” which helps weave and build families around the world, for each woman, their experience is unique and different.
Surrogates have been pregnant before with their own children, but when having a baby for others in need, the journey is indescribable.
Linda, a mother of two toddlers, decided to become a surrogate for the very first time. The topic of surrogacy emerged, she said, while she was in school.
“I learned about surrogacy back when I was in high school, my senior year to be exact,” said Linda, a current surrogate with Extraordinary Conceptions, a leading international egg donor and surrogacy agency in San Diego County. “One of my favorite teacher’s was having fertility issues and she explained what surrogacy was and I thought that was a beautiful thing. And I told her one day I would want to be a surrogate.”
Those words she spoke to her teacher resonated with Linda.
“What inspired me the most is how big a person’s heart is to actually carry a baby for another family,” said Linda, 21. “I want to be that person with the big heart.”
And Linda, undoubtedly, is that special person.
In a committed relationship with the father of her two children, she is also a student studying to be a pharmacy technician. As well, she is a stay-at-home mother.
Linda describes motherhood as the most wonderful thing. Her children mean the world to her and they have changed her life for the better.
Being a first time surrogate has enabled Linda to give this same gift to those who want to become parents.
Being a stay-at-home mother has afforded Linda a great opportunity to fulfill her surrogacy dreams.
“When I had my second baby I knew my family was complete; and, I revisited my dream, finding Extraordinary Conceptions,” she said. Linda also went on to say that her lifestyle gave her the time to accomplish this amazing dream.
She knew Extraordinary Conceptions was the “right agency.” Through research and instinct, she immediately picked up on their genuine love for what they do and how they care for their surrogates and intended parents.
Linda is beaming with excitement.
So far, she has been matched with a couple and had a warmhearted conference call with the intended parents.
And her visit with the fertility doctor for her medical screening was a breeze.
During these initial steps in being a first time surrogate, Linda is impressed with how “present” Extraordinary Conceptions is at every turn.
“I’ve received great support from Extraordinary Conceptions,” she said, adding how the Facebook group is wonderful and their email and phone call responses are swift. “I’m grateful for all their support.”
While Linda is looking forward to this journey, she is also appreciative of the generous compensation she will receive from Extraordinary Conceptions. The financial rewards are quite impressive.
Looking ahead, Linda shared she would like to pay off some of her student loans, perhaps get a new car, and place the rest of the monies into her children’s college fund.
“It’s my dream to be a surrogate,” she said. “I want these future parents to feel the same way I felt when I had my babies and it means the world to me knowing that I can give someone the greatest gift of all.”
