How Kardashian is raising awareness on why surrogacy is needed

Celebrity surrogacy raises awareness on so many important issues.

Media attention has skyrocketed since reports suggested that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are using a surrogate to carry their third child. While some want to keep up with these celebrity stories, something else has happened. The Kardashian news raises awareness on why surrogacy is medically needed.

Surrogacy: Infertility

One of the most common reasons why future parents need a surrogate to carry their baby stems from infertility. An example of this is a cancer survivor who becomes infertile following her surgeries or treatments.

For a woman, these cases may range from uterine cancer to ovarian cancer which require a hysterectomy.

There are also uterine issues which may make conceiving difficult as well as carrying a baby to full term. These causes may include widespread fibroids or uterine scarring.

Many future parents who seek surrogacy have thought about it for quite some time.  They realize that a surrogate can help them carry their child.

Surrogacy: Pregnancy Complications

Surrogacy is also an option if there are a history of pregnancy complications. Another example is a woman needing a surrogate but she is already a mother. For some particular reason, having another pregnancy is not the best medical choice. This could be for her own health or the wellness of her baby.

On Keeping Up With The Kardashians, as well as other media reports, Kim Kardashian had complications from her prior pregnancies. This was also revealed in her interview with Allure Magazine when a reporter asked if she wanted another child.

“I would like to, but I’ve had lots and lots of complications. I had preeclampsia. And then I also had something called placenta accreta. We’ve explored surrogacy. We’re thinking about it,” Kardashian shared.

Other pregnancy complications can include the following:

  • Miscarriages
  • Premature labor and birth
  • Ectopic pregnancies

As mentioned before, a doctor may advise their patients not to attempt another pregnancy due to previous complications. It’s these types of medical cases when a woman may decide that surrogacy may be right for her.

Surrogacy: Pre-Existing Health Conditions

Certain medical conditions may make pregnancy dangerous to women. In these types of instances, surrogacy may be the best option so women and their unborn children can stay safe and healthy.

These pre-existing health conditions may include:

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Kidney disease
  • Autoimmune diseases such as lupus or multiple sclerosis

And more.

Another pre-existing condition is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Someone with this medical disorder may have difficulty getting pregnant and may run a greater risk of miscarriage.

Certain medications to maintain a woman’s health which is unsafe to use during pregnancy is another reason why surrogacy may be the safest choice.

While a traditional pregnancy may not be an option for some women, it’s important to remember that there are always alternatives to building a family.
